September 30, 2007 was a historic day in the life of the congregations of First Christian Church, Richardson and Western Heights Christian Church of Garland. On that day, both congregations voted to unite together as one church. Both congregations realize that uniting takes time. Just deciding to do something is not enough to make it happen. It is like when two people decide to get married. You have a lot of planning, counseling, and expenses. Then once the ceremony is over, the day to day living together begins. That is the process we are in. This is why on our front page we are listed as a "Uniting" congregation. Uniting suggests that process of becoming one. We take the best of both and become what God wants us to become at this time and place. The process of doing what God wants us to do is always ongoing, but we are in a unique position of being able to start anew at figuring that out. If you are intrigued by all this, come worship with us. Join us on our exciting journey.
Update: Name that church has begun...we are working toward finding a new name for our uniting congregation. It is our hope that this name, inspired by God, will embody what we are about here.
